THE PITCH

Before the pitch

The pitch takes place twice a year. Selected projects receive artistic coaching, access to our equipment, productional and distribution support, and a tiny budget. Via an open call we invite filmmakers to submit a 2 minute video in which you give an impression of what you'd like to explore audio-visually. Based on the video we decide whether to invite you for a follow-up conversation where we discuss your idea and talk about our mutual expectations of a potential collaboration.

Important is that:

  • The project is in the concept phase,

  • The project is feasible. Meaning: when you pitch you should be able to start and carry out the project; no major obstacles should stand in your way,

  • The project is not a commissioned work (such as a promotional video),

  • The artist is interested in engaging in an artistic dialogue with us.

If we are convinced that we can produce the film with the means we have, you will get a green light to pitch and we will help you prepare for it.

The pitch night

A maximum of five people are invited to pitch their project to an independent jury. At the end of the evening the selected project(s) are announced. The jury's deliberation carefully weighs the artistic quality (of both the presented approach and the projected outcome), and whether or not they believe the artist might benefit from a collaboration with Video Power.

Even though the pitch is open to the public, it is a very casual event. Most pitchers perceive it as fun and useful, whether they get selected or not.

HOW WE SUPPORT ARTISTS

We are always looking for projects with a personal approach. We’re open to aspiring, emerging and established filmmakers, including autodidacts and artists from different backgrounds or disciplines. We are interested in any kind of audiovisual project, although we only support fiction films if the filmmaker has an experimental approach and can produce the project with the available means.

There are various ways and degrees in which we support artists. Many of our productions are selected by an independent jury during our pitches, after which they are supported from concept to distribution. The pitch focuses on projects that are made with the available resources. Bigger projects that require more productional involvement can be presented by a VP team member to the rest of the team. Occasionally we organise specific open calls, such as an open call for distribution or for films that are stuck in the editing phase. If you have a technical/conceptual question that could be tackled together, or if you would like to do a practical experiment with peers, it’s possible to propose your idea for a LAB session (contact tim@videopower.eu).
